Az Elektronikus Jármű és Járműirányítási Tudásközpont 2005. január 1-én alakult a Budapesti Műszaki és Gazdaságtudományi Egyetemen. A szakterület (járműelektronika és mechatronika) interdiszciplináris jellegének megfelelően minden releváns egyetemi kar delegált résztvevő szervezeti egységet. A Tudásközpont szereplői a területen zajló hazai aktivitás igen jelentős hányadát (több mint 90%-át) képviselik, és tudományterületük nemzetközileg is elismert képviselői. A Tudásközpont egyetemi, akadémiai és ipari partnerei a teljes innovációs láncot lefedik az alapkutatástól kezdve, az alkalmazásorientált kutatáson át, a termékfejlesztéssel bezárólag (ideértve annak piaci bevezetését egyedi igényeket kielégítő és nagy volumenben gyártott termékekre is). A folyamat nem zárul le a termékek piaci bevezetésével, a Tudásközpont részt vállal a jogi szabályozás munkálataiban is. A termékfejlesztéssel párhuzamosan kialakítunk egy, a termékfejlesztést és a projektmenedzsmentet, támogató rendszert, amely szintén elérhetővé válik az érdekelt felek számára. A Tudásközpont küldetése a járműipari „know-how” összegyűjtése és a vállalati szféra számára történő szolgáltatása, elsődlegesen Magyarországon, de igény esetén külföldön is. Nem titkolt célunk a közvetítői szerep vállalása az egyetemi és akadémiai, illetve a piaci szféra között, az üzleti elvárások egyetemeken való ismertetése, valamint a modern tudományos ismeretek konkrét gazdasági hasznosítása érdekében.
